FDA Finally Admits Chicken Meat Contains Cancer-Causing Arsenic

FDA finally admitted that chickens given the drug are actually positive for inorganic arsenic, according to the Associated Press .

The issue has been swept under the rug for years, but the FDA finally confirmed that chicken sold in markets contains arsenic. Arsenic is a toxic chemical that causes cancer, and it is fatal in high doses. The real problem is the origin of the arsenic, or the way in which it ends up in the chicken meat you eat.

Arsenic is mixed with chicken feed on purpose! According to IATP’s report in 2006, called Playing Chicken: Avoiding Arsenic in your meat, more than 70% of the chickens raised for meat are given arsenic in order to induce faster growth on less feed and give the healthy color of chicken, turkey and hog meat.

The FDA found that about half of the chickens tested have absorbed inorganic arsenic in the liver. This is the most toxic form of this cancer-causing chemical.

Taking this into consideration, Pfizer was asked to stop producing Roxarsone, an arsenic-containing drug that is usually added to chicken feed in order to make chicken fatter and give a nice and pink color to the meat.

The Wall Street Journal reported:

“The agency said it recently conducted a study of 100 broiler chickens that detected inorganic arsenic at higher levels in the livers of chickens treated with 3-Nitro compared with untreated chickens … Pfizer said sale of 3-Nitro would be stopped by early July in order to allow animal producers to transition to other treatments.”

However, even though this product is pulled off the shelves in the stores throughout the US, the FDA still claims that chicken contains small amount of arsenic and it is still safe to eat, despite they said that arsenic is a carcinogen and increases the risk of cancer.

The production industry does not want the world to know that arsenic is extremely dangerous and toxic to health. According to the University of South Carolina Department of Environmental Health Services, arsenic, along with lead and mercury, has severe neurological effect on fetuses and children.

Experts say that arsenic is four times more poisonous than mercury. The trivalent Arsenic As+3 is 60 times as toxic as the pentavalent As +5.

The Journal of the American Medical Association published a study according to which individuals who consume large amounts of arsenic-tinged rice, in the absence of any other arsenic exposure, experience cellular changes associated with cancer development.

Latest reports have confirmed that when ingested, arsenic causes Bowen disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ); invasive squamous cell carcinoma ; basal cell carcinoma on the skin; and sometimes even cancers of the internal organs, including lungs, kidneys, bladder, and liver.

Believe it or not, the FDA still tells consumers that it is quite safe to eat arsenic-loaded food but it is extremely dangerous to drink elderberry juice!
