Alcohol relaxes stomach valves that connect the stomach with esophagus. When this happens, the body is not able to keep the food in the stomach. If you have been drinking alcohol before bed, it is very possible for the stomach acid to “climb back” to your mouth.

Sodas

When it comes to stomach acids, sodas are the worst thing you could consume. Acids, caused by sodas, could damage the valves between the stomach and esophagus, while carbonization increases stomach pressure.

Nuts

No matter if they are saturated or not, fats are just fats when it comes to gastroesophageal reflux. This is why you should avoid eating nuts before going to bed.

Citrus or any other sour fruit

We all know that citrus-fruits are sour. Orange or apple juice is very bad choice of drink before sleeping.

Chocolate

Chocolate also relaxes valves between stomach and esophagus due to its fatty content. Some types of chocolate contain caffeine. Like we said before, anything with caffeine is not a good food choice before going to bed.
